Report: Observation log (23/01/2026 morning 8:14):
In the days leading up to this, the sleep cycle had inverted. Nighttime wakefulness, late-night stimulation, and delayed sleep onset led to fragmented sleep and loss of any stable circadian anchor. Attempts to go to bed early resulted in short first sleep followed by prolonged wakefulness around midnight to early morning. Lying in bed awake became the default state. The body was no longer responding to intention or reasoning about sleep.
Yesterday, the brain explicitly refused the instruction to “do something” at night and adopted a stance of non-compliance: it stated it would remain in bed until 08:00 if necessary. This was not rest, but refusal to engage in activity during the night.
In response to this impasse, the brain identified the core issue as the absence of a fixed temporal anchor. It therefore established a non-negotiable daily wake time at 07:30, intended for continuous use.
The body then implemented enforcement. The phone was placed on a high cabinet, partially blocked by a smaller cabinet on caster wheels. The alarm was set to maximum volume, using the full 30-minute boot camp audio from Full Metal Jacket as the ringtone.
This setup deliberately leveraged the constraint “I do not want to wake my flatmates.” As a result, when the alarm triggered, the body was forced to exit the bedding immediately and reach the phone within seconds.
The brain then used the Full Metal Jacket audio to induce an atmosphere of military discipline and urgency. It defined an 11-minute window to dismantle the bed setup (floor mat, multiple blankets and duvets, six pillows) and exit the house in running gear. At the 11-minute mark, the boot-camp montage and drum cadence begin.
The audio continues during a ~15-minute run. An additional rule was introduced: do not re-enter the house before 08:00; continue running until that time.
Additional notes:
The brain observed that the removal of prior belief narratives left behavior without an organizing anchor. The sleep cycle collapse exposed this gap. The brain therefore constructed an anchor centered on a fixed 07:30 wake-up paired with immediate physical movement, and named it Operation / Creed Seven Thirty.
The brain also reflected that previous reasons for not running were effectively infinite. When one obstacle resolved (e.g., muscle pain), another appeared (e.g., illness), resulting in months of inaction. The logic was inverted: instead of waiting for the body to become ready to run, begin running and allow readiness and adaptation to follow.
